Originally released in 1996, "Blood On Ice" is a landmark concept album by the Swedish band BATHORY. It is widely considered one of the definitive works of the Viking Metal genre, though its history is as legendary as the story it tells.
The sound is grand and mid-tempo, moving away from high-speed thrash toward "Epic Metal." It features acoustic passages, atmospheric sound effects (like galloping horses and forging steel), and layered "choir" vocals.
