Carcass – Symphonies Of Sickness CD
CARCASS (United Kingdom) - Symphonies of Sickness (2002 Earache Re-issue USA). This album landed at #22 on Decibel's Top 100 Death Metal Albums of All Time list.
This is the EPITOME of how Death Metal should make somebody feel - afraid and sick. Indifferent, show off brutality is sterile and devoid of testicular matter. To give a listener the true feeling of death, you need to encapsulate that album with it. Make every pore of it's production reek with the decay of the human animal. And Carcass have not only managed to do that, but they have also managed to make a catchy and memorable beast to go along with that.
You still get a grim feeling from that small little bridge string in "Exhume To Consume", or that painful and wrenching intro to "Ruptured in Purulence". But the intro to "Reek of Putrefaction" has got to be the absolute best of them all. The gurgled and squelched vocals riding over a sinister and almost atonal synthesizer. Mixed perfectly with the staccato minor-key violin scratches. All wrapped up into one little package of leaking, pus filled euphoria.
More than 30 years on, the band's second full-length "Symphonies Of Sickness" remains a landmark for both the band themselves and Extreme Metal as a whole. **originally published on metal-archives.com by sparklewhooves1** Earache – MOSH 18CD
