Active from 2001-2005, the highly revered side project of Leviathan’s Jef Whitehead, LURKER OF CHALICE, is mostly known for their 2005 Self-Titled full-length. The release of “Tellurian Slaked Furnace” marks the first time any of the LURKER OF CHALICE demo recordings have been re-issued and also offers a substantial amount of previously unheard material. 
A total of 70+ minutes of music that expands and contracts, evolves and disintegrates. 
This is a meticulously edited and compiled excavation of Jef Whitehead’s (Wrest) earliest recordings under the Lurker of Chalice moniker—predating the cult-classic full-length.
This isn't just a "demo collection." It is a cohesive immersion into a more experimental, avant-garde side of Whitehead's psyche, where Black Metal is a distant ghost and Dark Ambient/Post-Punk takes the lead.
Unlike the aggressive vitriol of Leviathan, much of this record is built on haunting, minimalist acoustic guitars. These arpeggiated melodies feel fragile and naked, creating a sense of "uncomfortably close" intimacy.
The production is murky and cinematic. It moves away from the "wall of sound" to focus on space—using industrial clangs, field recordings, and electronic dirges to evoke a feeling of total isolation.
This is largely an instrumental journey. When vocals do appear (notably on track "II"), they are seething, distant howls that sound less like a performance and more like a distress signal from a cave.
Tellurian Slaked Furnace serves as a "missing link" for fans. It shows the transition from pure Black Metal toward the neo-classicism and post-rock influences that made LURKER OF CHALICE such a unique entity.
