NECHOCHWEN (USA) - Algonkian Mythos (used CD copy) (2008) Released by Dark Horizon Records in a standard jewel case.
The debut full-length studio album by West Virginia’s NECHOCHWEN, released through Dark Horizon Records in 2008. Centered on Aaron Carey’s classical and acoustic guitar work, the album combines intricate instrumental passages with chants, singing, percussion, and atmospheric touches.
Its sound draws on dark folk, neofolk, and classical music, establishing the acoustic foundations of a project that would later incorporate Black Metal.
Inspired by Carey’s exploration of his Native American ancestry and the history of the Ohio Valley, its ten tracks depict people, conflicts, and events connected to Eastern Woodland Indigenous communities, particularly during the eighteenth century.
The music approaches these subjects through atmosphere and musical storytelling, conveying grief, tension, and remembrance. “Pilawah” is a traditional Shawnee piece arranged by Carey.
